Andre van Maanen - BDP Netherlands BV

Operations Manager - Rotterdam
BDP Netherlands BV
Celebrating 4 Years of BDP Service in 2009
BDP Process Improvement
Award Winner

BDP's Mike Andaloro, Managing Director-Asia Pacific nominated Andre van Maanen with a BDP Process Improvement Award for his support with the recent Tietan Operating System integration at BDP Singapore. "The recognition award is based on Andre's support of BDP Singapore and the recent integration for several key accounts" remarked Andaloro. "Andre took the time to travel to Singapore to support the new business transition / systems integration and to greatly help out BDP Singapore."

Bob van Buren, Country Manager-BDP Netherlands presented Andre's award on October 30.

(Pictured left to right: Bob van Buren and Andre van Maanen, both based at BDP Rotterdam.)

The following story is an edited version of the full story published in a September 2009 internal, BDP Singapore newsletter.

Andre van Maanen, Operations Manager BDP Netherlands and Kenneth Shum, Senior Administrator - IT, BDP Hong Kong were both in our Singapore office between 24 August through 4 September. Both gentlemen were invited here to help roll out the Tietan Operating System in BDP Singapore for one of our global account DSM Nutritional Products Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (DSM).

Andre’s primary responsibilities are training our DSM team using the Tietan system operationally, working closely with our finance team with the Accounts Payable and customizing the shipping documents for our use in the Singapore environment. With Andre’s Tietan's experience in BDP Netherlands and strong support from Jay Coulbourne (BDP’s Development Manger for Houston & Europe), the training and customization were addressed promptly and successfully.

We can now safely conclude that the DSM Team is now able to use the system without the initial "fear" and concern using a "brand new system" in BDP Singapore. Though there are still around 5% of customization to go, Andre has systematically trained up Alfred Tan (Super User for Tietan System) to work on this. Andre left us for home on 4th September 2009.

The team in Singapore would like to say a big THANK YOU to Andre, Jay and Kenneth for their precious time and patience demonstrated during this period. Although a short training period, we have moved big steps forward! We would also like to express our thanks to Bob van Buren, Country Manager of BDP Netherlands for allowing Andre to be here and Lee Mun Shiu, in arranging Kenneth Sum’s involvement throughout the DSM implementation.

Joe Pangaro - BDP Philadelphia, USA

Logistics Coordinator, Dow Chemical Ocean Export
Celebrating 2 Years of BDP Service in February 2010
BDP Outstanding Customer Service Award Winner

Diligent Follow-up and Execution make a Difference
.
BDP Philadelphia’s Michael Mehlmann-Director of Americas Supply Chain and David Dougherty-Strategic Account Manager, Dow LC Team will present an Outstanding Customer Service Award to Joe Pangaro for a recent, unsolicited Service Excellence testimonial submitted by The Dow Chemical Company.
.
CSX Transportation, a US based rail carrier, rejected an export hazmat container prior to loading the rail due to blocking and bracing issues. BDP's Joe Pangaro communicated directly with the rail to secure a more defined rejection rationale; then obtained a detailed description with photographs -provided by the rail carrier- for the approved plant to rework the container. The reworked container made the same day cut at the rail head for the load to maintain its current sailing schedule. Joe's timely communications and shipment management skills got the job done.

"Excellent job on this, Joe. Thank you for following up on this issue, identifying a resource to complete the work in a timely manner, and ensuring we maintained the current sailing schedule. It is this type of follow through and execution that makes a difference for a time sensitive, market facing business like DAS (Dow AgroSciences LLC)."

Michael Gebo - The Dow Chemical Company

Fonda Nolan - BDP Atlanta, USA

Senior Import Specialist
BDP Outstanding Customer Service Award Winner

Valued Partnerships and a Touch of Magic

"Fonda Nolan transmitted a "wheels up" entry on Friday, October 16 and was available on Saturday, October 17. The cartage firm we work with is reliable, and Fonda has a relationship with the main dispatcher that goes back years of getting things done together for clients."

Lin Aultman, Director of Operations-BDP Atlanta and Miami-US.

Kautex Inc. service excellence testimonial emailed to Lin Aultman.
Once again, Fonda has worked her magic and helped us out of a real mess. Our supplier in Italy shipped late, and parts were not going to get on a flight out of Italy until 10/17. Fonda worked with BDP Italy to get material on an earlier flight that is arriving in Atlanta this afternoon. We will now receive parts in Lavonia, GA-US on Saturday instead of them just leaving Italy. We are in a very tight situation and receiving these parts Saturday allows us to meet our customer’s requirements. Fonda’s efforts are very much appreciated. This isn’t uncommon for her though. She is always willing to help us in these situations. Please pass along our thanks to the individuals at BDP Italy that helped get this shipment moving.

Tony Kizzee - Kautex Inc., a subsidiary of Textron Inc.

Vince Pace - BDP Philadelphia, USA

Global Process Integrations Analyst
Celebrating 14 Years of BDP Service in 2009
BDP Employee Dedication Award Winner

"E" for internal Service Excellence

BDP's Michael Ford-Vice President, Regulatory Compliance and Quality-Philadelphia, PA-US nominated Vince Pace as an Employee Dedication Award recipient for his contributions to fulfill a four-year period of reports and data -relative to U.S. export growth statistics- required on BDP's application for The President's "E Star" Award for Excellence in Exporting.

"Vince was a great asset in assisting BDP with the gathering of reports and data to support the application for the BDP 'E Star' Award", remarked Ford. "Further, without Vince's effort -multiple times for multiple requests- the application process would have been delayed, especially with the latest request for data from Year 1996, where Vince's effort went above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you, Vince."

Stay tuned for upcoming
BDP "E Star" Award communications in November 2009
celebrating our company's exceptional export achievements!

Nicole Christopher and Ken Brown - BDP Philadelphia Airport-US

BDP Outstanding Customer Service Award Winners

"As promised, here are some comments made by my team and
one our plants regarding a couple of folks on the Nalco account.
Good follow-up, attention to detail, and responsiveness to problem resolution."
Todd Pickering, Manager-Export Logistics
Nalco Company

Appreciation for a Job Well Done

Ken Brown and Nicole Christopher, both Logistics Coordinators based in the BDP Philadelphia Airport-US, will be presented with Outstanding Customer Service Awards for their contributions servicing the Nalco Company. BDP Director of Operations-Philadelphia Airport, John Wright submitted these remarks about Ken's and Nicole's outstanding performance:

During our quarterly Nalco process review conference call, Todd Pickering, Manager-Export Logistics-Nalco Company made a point to show the company's appreciation for our employees and the way they represent BDP.

Saying such, I am nominating Ken Brown and Nicole Christopher for their role in delivering outstanding customer service. Further, what makes us appreciate these valuable employees is the fact that this team was down by one member for the second quarter of 2009 while our customer volumes continued to rebound.

This testimony from Nalco shows that these employees, along with the entire Nalco team, rose to the challenge of delivering outstanding customer service given the shipment volume increase and while the team was a resource short. For that, we owe them our sincere thanks.
Testimonial 1
Ken Brown from BDP calls faithfully to verify appointments have been made and containers have been loaded. I appreciate his follow up very much. Ken called today regarding 1889553 and 1894913 for Germany with cut off dates of 10/15. He wanted to let me know the carrier did not call, because there is no equipment at this time; although, they are working on a resolution. He is working with the salesperson, and if they do not find equipment, both shipments would have to roll per Ken.

Roxanne Romeo - Production Planner, Ellwood City Plant-US
Nalco Company

Testimonial 2
Ken Brown is very professional and quick to respond to all my needs. His dedication to making sure all my requests are met in a timely manner and his follow up to all my issues is outstanding. Please give him my many thanks for the 6 years he has worked with me on Europe. Great Job!

Darrel Davis - Export Logistics Analyst
Nalco Company

Testimonial 3
Please make sure to mention that I appreciate Nicole Christopher's responsiveness and high level of commitment to the very sudden uptick in business to Brazil- both for the sub and the direct customers. The end of the year is always a challenge when both vessel space and equipment become scarce, so every effort that she has done to make sure that I am able to meet the customer's requirements is highly appreciated.

Penny Cornejo - Export Logistics Analyst
Nalco Company

Ken and Nicole are celebrating 19 and 6 Years of BDP Service in 2009, respectively.
Congratulations to you and the entire BDP Nalco Team!

Karin Goebel - BDP Philadelphia, US

Logistics Coordinator - DuPont Ocean Export
BDP Outstanding Customer Service and DuPont Winner's Circle Award Winner

"The damaged container was a great learning experience,
and the outcome was to everybody's satisfaction.
It was hard work and very confusing, but I got the job done."
Karin Goebel - BDP Philadelphia, USA

A Good Understanding Equals Success

On November 3, Angela Ludman-E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company-US will present Karin with a DuPont Winner's Circle Award - an exclusive award to DuPont's internal and external recognition framework. Ludman commented that the Fluoro chemicals team is "recognizing Karin Goebel for her efforts to work through a damaged container at the Port of Los Angeles, CA-US"

In turn, Mike Williamson, Manager-DuPont Ocean Export, BDP Philadelphia-US submitted DuPont's service acknowledgements within our company's Employee Recognition program. Mike supported DuPont's sentiments by adding, "Karin set aside a lot of time and effort to get to the end result. Hazmat containers are not the easiest containers to pull off the rail, and a damaged container adds another complexity layer to the process."

It was determined that the container was damaged on the rail en route from the East Coast-US to Los Angeles, CA-US. Karin was instrumental in arranging a third party to inspect and assess the damage level. She then proceeded to arrange product trans-loading from the damaged container to the new container.

"Karin spent a few days coordinating this project" noted Williamson, "and also coordinated with the respective DuPont and BDP teams to ensure that the export documentation referenced the new container number and booking details. Karin went out of her way to understand the situation and ultimately coordinated the final inspection and return of the damaged container." Thank you, Karin, for your outstanding customer service!

Danny Aquino - BDP Edison, US

Ocean Export Logistics Coordinator
Celebrating 8 Years of BDP Service in 2009
Employee Dedication Award Winner

"I was glad to help my colleagues and
to make sure everything was on par with the upgrade."
Danny Aquino - BDP Edison, USA
.
Rick Boedewig, Director-BDP Edison-US appointed Danny Aquino-Ocean Export Logistics Coordinator as the primary designate to work with both BDP Corporate IT and the Edison colleagues to power down the Edison office for an electric wiring upgrade. These efforts included:

1. Power down all power strips
2. Unplug any equipment not plugged into a power strip
3. Power down network / system (Lee Conquest, BDP Philadelphia-US IT provided direction)
4. Power down mail machines

Rick commented that he learned very late in the afternoon that the building superintendent made a decision to place the office's electric wiring on its own transformer due to the increase of building tenants. As such, all power was to be cut by 6:00pm, less than four hours after notification.
.
"Danny led the effort to power down our entire office and take the precautions to protect our office and equipment from power surges" remarked Rick. "Danny then came in early this morning to power up the entire office, network, phones, and copiers. Through Danny’s efforts, we took the necessary precautions to protect our infrastructure while ensuring there was ZERO impact to operations and our customers."

Rick submitted the following words of thanks as a direct result of Danny's successful support:
Hello Danny,

I understand we are up and running, and I wanted to personally thank you for leading this effort for our office. Thanks for safely powering down the office last evening as well as coming in early to power us up.

Rick Boedewig, Director – BDP Edison, US
