Measured Improvement
Theresa Garvey, Manager, Strategic Accounts - BDP Philadelphia DuPont Import Operations spotlighted Matt for his innovation to improve the US clearance cycle-time for the DuPont Kalrez® o-ring molds from Europe to the United States. The implemented idea resulted in a 3-day improvement over the previous 6-day clearance process; ultimately improving final delivery to DuPont's customers in the United States.

"This was a major process improvement for the DuPont Performance Polymers (DPE) business" said Theresa. "Matt worked internally to get done what our competition continued to make difficult for the DuPont business and for BDP."

"The Atlantic Courier Post Service Company -the US distribution partner servicing the account- is our contracted US courier and has been doing an excellent job for us daily" remarked Theresa. "This organization also keeps the DuPont business happy with on-time cargo delivery. These reasons led me to recommend that Matt be honored for his work at a higher level within the BDP Recognized Service Excellence program.”...

Theresa further commented that the DuPont Import Operation had been reviewing ideas to improve the process since the current global logistics provider was willing to change the delivery process for additional costs. DuPont asked BDP what could be done and where we could help. Matt developed the new process and worked with Lena DeFazio, BDP Aston-PA Import Manager, requesting the Atlantic Courier Post Service Company to deliver the original import documents directly to the BDP Philadelphia office instead of to the BDP Aston office.

The BDP Philadelphia DuPont Import Team would now receive the documents the same day as cargo arrival; special thanks to the new delivery route by the Atlantic Courier Port Service Company. Plus, this process eliminated the need for BDP Aston to physically scan and email documents. The real-time access to original documentation by-passed the supporting help from BDP Aston and any potential for misplaced paperwork.

"We implemented a few simple steps to improve the process; to save time and money for our business each day. Now we receive the paperwork and can immediately begin processing the entry and coordinate delivery to the US customer. Sometimes it is difficult to make changes when a process is one way for years and years. We were presented with a challenge, and we came up with a value-added solution for both DuPont and BDP.”

Lastly, the timing of the BDP recognition was perfect. The award was presented on Matt's birthday, and there was a cheering applause from the DuPont Operation managers for the DuPont and BDP recognition. The surprise recognition ended the week nicely said Theresa.

I wanted to send a quick note of praise for Matt Campbell and his group for the delivery improvement witnessed at the end of 2010. During the first three quarters of 2010 we were averaging 6 work days (4.56) from shipping to delivery for the Kalrez o-ring molds from Europe. Working with Matt, and FedEx, during these three quarters there seemed to be slight delay in getting documentation for clearance. Matt worked on an improved process for these molds, which resulted in an average of 3 work days (2.96) from shipping to delivery. This was an average of 3 days "improvement", which is an excellent performance for the importation of these molds..I have personally thanked Matt and his team, during my recent visit (Dec. 2010) to BDP, for this excellent performance. The shorter delivery time is very much appreciated by the Kalrez business,
which allows them to turn around customer custom order in quicker fashion.
