BDP Service Excellence and Teamwork
On May 29, the BDP Baltimore-US office lost power and needed to figure out a plan to bill over twenty-eight (28) files that would produce significant revenue billings for the office. Angela contacted Jack Wright, Team Leader, Philadelphia Ocean Export, BDP Philadelphia-US for assistance. Jack went into each TOPS job; where Angela would read out the billable line items and amounts over the phone.
Additional help was needed in the billing process since multiple BDP Transport files were involved. Jack contacted Donna Dougherty, BDP Transport Customer Service-Philadelphia-US to make sure the BDP Transport ocean rates were accurate prior to billing. Donna updated some of the rates and BL Backed the files so they could be accurately billed by Jack. Donna’s efforts were vital to this process. After all the files were billed and printed, Donna double checked each BDP Transport shipment; where all files were compliant on the billing side.
In Angela’s words, “Jack did not even hesitate when I called and asked him for help. He’s a teddy bear. Donna’s and Jack’s customer service was definitely over and above. If anybody could understand the work involved, it would be Jack. Jack and Donna deserve kudos. They are amazing.”
Coincidentally, it was the last business day of the month, and these files were all recent sailings in criteria to be billed - no exceptions.
I had a very remarkable but not surprising experience yesterday (Friday) and thought it worthy of a nomination of two colleagues. As you know the power at our office was out in the afternoon. Not sure if it is yet back but I will stop by later this afternoon (Saturday) to check.
I sat in my now hot office, with no power in my laptop, while everyone went into manual mode where ever possible. My biggest thought was how to complete my billing. I started brainstorming and then decided to take a chance on an idea I had. One of the people on Todd Greene's (Director of Operations-BDP Philadelphia, US) team, who I absolutely love, is Jack Wright. He has been very helpful when someone from my team had some questions regarding a NAFTA shipment and I suggested we contact BDP Philadelphia-US to review.
With the clock ticking and several files still be billed and closed I called Jack on my cell phone. I explained the situation and asked if he could possible do the billing on the files if I verbally read the info to him. He agreed and so we started the Baltimore billing with help from Philadelphia. I had prioritized the files by Transport and non Transport since Transport shipments. As we began to work through those, we ran into a few roadblocks where files had to be unlocked and or sell rates checked to ensure the files were properly BL backed. Jack and I decided to conference in Donna Dougherty, Customer Service, BDP Transport-Philadelphia so we would not have to set aside any of the Transport files and lose the opportunity to get that revenue for the month.
I am so grateful to those two people and I wanted them to know. Without their assistance we could not have completed our export billing for the day. And the saga continues: We still had five import shipments to invoice where the Baltimore Import Supervisor contacted Michele Henry, Air Export Manager-BDP Baltimore-US on her mobile phone since she was away from the office. When Michele got home, she got on the computer and billed the import files. She rocks!
I close this by saying, I am so glad that teamwork still exists at BDP, as I always believed it did.
Kudos to the BDP Philadelphia duo: Jack and Donna!
