Sterling efforts
The BDP Los Angeles Warehouse Team saved my life” said Brenda Sweet, Import Manager – BDP Charleston-US, describing an import shipment of new tires from China to Los Angeles, CA-US. The shipment was placed on USDA hold for material inspection upon arrival in December 2009. Three weeks later –in mid January- the material was examined and released to BDP.
The container was further delayed as the ocean carrier was unable to permit the distance travel in the original container to the US Gulf and East Coast customers. Accordingly, BDP arranged to have the shipment delivered to the BDP Los Angeles-US warehouse to off load and reload in a new container.
Meantime, OTR Wheel Engineering customers in Texas and Georgia-US are in need of product.
The inland carrier arrived at the BDP Los Angeles warehouse close to 5:00pm, the end of the business day. The Warehouse Team stayed “quite some time to offload, segregate, and reload product” stated Sweet. Orlando Blandon, Warehouse Manager-BDP Los Angeles-US contacted Sweet throughout the evening with container updates.
Thank you for being the solution
The project was certainly a tall order, considering the tires were randomly reloaded in the container post inspection. Product needed to be completely off loaded, sorted, and reloaded to accommodate the customer orders. Some tires were loaded on skids and shrink wrapped for one customer; other tires were banded in groups of three -weighing in at 100 lbs (45 kgs) each- for the other customer. Understand the challenge here when Blandon stated. “We were lucky. We found the 14 small skids of tires buried in the very nose of the container underneath the loose tires.”
