Great Teamwork goes Green!
A US-Canadian border crossing shipment of electric lawnmowers.
On Monday, July 27, Nancy Nebel, CHB, CCS, Import Manager – BDP Atlanta-US assisted our customer, Jacobsen, A Textron Company, with an innovative yet critical border crossing shipment already en route from the United States to the Canadian Border. Jerry O’Brien, Logistics Manager – Jacobsen, A Textron Company called Nancy advising that “one of his guys was three hours from the Canadian Border with a trailer of electric lawnmowers who needed to get through Canadian Customs. How do we make this happen?” The electric lawnmowers are a new product developed by Jacobsen for golf courses; where they would be demonstrated for two days to prospective buyers in Canada before being returned to the US.
Jacobsen's and BDP’s initial idea was to file a Carnet; although, Nancy advised that Barry Larsen, the driver and product presenter, could experience significant Border delays as carnets could take between 24-48 hours to process. A carnet is a “merchandise passport” and serves as an international customs document that simplifies customs procedures for the temporary importation of various types of goods according to the United States Council for International Business (USCIB).
Instead, Nancy promptly called the BDP Ontario, Canada office for assistance with this temporary import entry and was quickly referred to W.G. McKay Limited in Canada. W.G. McKay assisted Nancy with filing an E29B – The Canadian Customs equivalent to the Temporary Import Bond (TIB) on the US side. Nancy also emailed the commercial invoice to specific designates at the US and Canadian Borders to keep the process moving along.
Nancy remained in close contact with Mr. Larsen and gave him complete instructions where to go once he arrived at the US and Canadian Borders. She was committed to staying in the office all night to get him across where he could call her with any issues at the border. Mr. Larsen went to the designated Customs windows and met with the supervisors; then crossed the border into Canada “without a hitch” noted Nancy.
Three days pass…
Nancy then made sure Mr. Larsen notified her by phone when he completed his final demonstration and advised him how to proceed with the paperwork prior to exiting Canada. Canadian Customs cancelled the E29B allowing Mr. Larsen to proceed through the Canadian border and meet the US Customs Supervisor; who then cleared Mr. Larson through as a one time entry. Mr. Larsen called Nancy after he passed through US Customs to advise he was heading back to Wisconsin-US.

Jacobsen shared these words of thanks in a recent email to Lin Aultman, Director of Operations – BDP Atlanta and Miami-US offices; Jimmie Daniels, General Manager – BDP Chicago-US; and Nancy:
“Good Afternoon,
I wanted to drop a note regarding the outstanding job Nancy
did for us on a recent delivery into Canada. In my opinion, she went the
extra mile and should be commended for it.”Jerry O'Brien, Logistics Manager - Jacobsen, A Textron Company
“We’re so excited” commented Nancy, “because BDP now has new business to look forward as a result of our performance. It pays off in the long run to stay committed to your customers. We are always focused on taking the best possible care of our customers, and this specific shipment was just one of those examples.”
