With this story, the testimonials focus on the collaborative efforts of four BDP colleagues who, in Dow Chemical's own words, worked jointly to "[make] the impossible, possible" for a critical air export shipment from Los Angeles,CA-US to Incheon International Airport-Seoul, Korea.

Special thanks is extended to our BDP colleague, Renee Yeo - Assistant Manager/ Air Freight-BDP Logistics Korea (Seoul), for her prompt notifications and arranging the local, bonded trucking to the customer's site in Seoul. "Renee had to take added steps on getting some type of import bond to make sure the drums could be moved as soon as they hit the ground in Korea", said BDP's Andrew McLoone.

A Global Synopsis of BDP Excellence and Teamwork
Dow had a refrigerated container on the water that was delayed in transit. BDP was able to pull a refrigerated container from a subsequent shipment at the Port of Los Angeles,CA-US. The matter was complicated when the ocean carrier incorrectly brought the container from the rail ramp to the port. After a day’s work of trying to get a union to help us out and release the container, BDP was able to get the container. The container arrived at the BDP Los Angeles warehouse at 5:00PM local time, and Chris Karu and Orlando Blandon at our warehouse stayed after hours to unload the 12 drums and get it over to the airline, Korea Air. Tommy Barola back in Philadelphia,PA-US finalized the arrangements and paperwork, and the drums were in the air at 1:00AM that same night. BDP Korea completed the delivery to the customer in Korea on the morning of Christmas Eve – preventing the plant shutdown.

Hello Amber,

Once again, we would like to compliment Dean Lawson for his great effort and cooperation with HBAS.

Our BDP Key Account HBAS supplies sports cars to a manufacturer. This manufacturer has many special orders, that HBAS sometimes has a shortage of supply. Dean then handles the communication with the various warehouses and organizes flights to Germany. Because of the time difference between America and Germany, he usually has to make decisions on his own, of which all have been correct.

Dean also receives information from HBAS USA before HBAS Germany. Thus, whenever HBAS is waiting for goods they ask us whether Dean heard anything from our colleagues in the USA. On occasion, he even spends a night at the office to make sure the goods are on their way.

HBAS Germany has praised Dean many times and we as well are very grateful.

Hello Max,

With the end of the year coming up very quickly, I wanted to take a minute to bring to your attention and acknowledge the great job the various folks who handle Imports at BDP have done throughout this year.

As you may know, in September 2008 Karsten Danielmeier assigned me the task of "fixing" the import process. Historically, it has taken an unacceptably long time to get samples from Germany to the Pittsburgh labs. With the closing of New Martinsville[WV-US], this had to change. Just before "go live" of P!P this year, Germany reported that the average number of days to get a sample to Pittsburgh had been reduced from 35 to 10. After approximately 2 months of trouble shooting after go live, we are finally back on track.

I have to credit Dylan, Pat, and Ernie for a large part of that success. Each, in their turn, has patiently worked through issues with me as we all learned the system. They consistently generate PO numbers within hours of my request being submitted and they are great at keeping me informed of any problems that may cause a delay. It has been a pleasure to work with such an efficient group of people.

Harman International has been challenged with short supply of component parts coupled with increased demand for their finished product. As a result of these challenges, they have required urgent import needs from China to the US. These urgent needs have resulted in 'hand-carry' shipments whereby BDP personnel have been asked to fly to the US on literally a moment's notice. If BDP did not hand-carry these materials in the US, Harman would risk shutting down the production line of a predominant global and US auto manufacturer - a very costly mishap to say the least.

The above mentioned BDP Shanghai team members have undertaken international trips to the US on literally just a few hours of advance notice. Their efforts on behalf of BDP / BDP's customers should not go unnoticed and as a result, I would like to nominate these individuals for Recognition under our Quality framework.
