Job Well Done, Team BDP!
Biflex Intimates Group recently provided unsolicited feedback related to the exceptional service provided by several BDP offices around the globe.

The story unfolds when Tom Keene, Vice President - BDP Transport sent a note of thanks to Biflex for its business. In turn, Scott Kingsley, Vice President- Logistics and Information Technology, Biflex Intimates Group, LLC remarked that “Jane Zellers, Office Manager – BDP Dallas, USA and her team are doing a great job.” Further, Scott spent “some quality time” with colleagues from BDP’s offices in Hong Kong and Jakarta, Indonesia, noting that they were “very impressive people.” He was very impressed with what he saw in these two countries as well as with the kind hospitality that was shown to him. The Biflex account has always been very well handled by the operations staff in all the BDP offices that handle this business, and Scott is most appreciative and thankful to “the BDP crew for all the hard work.”

Congratulations to each and every contributor to the Biflex account for a job well done!

Thanks to Jane Zellers - Office Manager, BDP Dallas, USA; Aaron Chen – Managing Director, BDP Indonesia; Jacques Chan – General Manager – BDP Hong Kong / South China; and Tom Keene, Vice President BDP Transport – Philadelphia, USA for sharing the nice messages from Biflex and extending recognition to the respective BDP winners.

Working together as a team, Alice Lau and Shermen Chow have been helping Biflex proactively to arrange their shipments under very tight timeline when suppliers are always running production behind schedule. Also, knowing suppliers are always under utilizing the capacity of the containers booked, they have designed an Excel report to show the container utilization of each container. As a result, Biflex is able to direct their suppliers to better utilize their containers, thereby reducing costs.

Email from Biflex Intimates to the BDP Hong Kong colleagues who manage the Biflex account with copy to Jane Zellers.

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me yesterday. The information you provided was both educational for me and will be very helpful to make our factories more cost conscious and efficient. All the work you do for Biflex is very much appreciated.

Chris Larkin manages the Biflex account for BDP Transport Imports. Chris worked very hard contacting many carriers to lower the base pricing on behalf of Biflex. Chris was able to pass along lower rates to Biflex, thereby reducing Biflex Intimate Group's overall transportation costs among specific trade lanes.

Service Excellence Testimonial
Joanne Smith, the day-to-day contact at Biflex and who works with Mike every day, provided her opinion of the customer service she receives from Mike. Joanne mentioned that she gets “fantastic service" from Mike, and he always gives her what she is looking for.

Mike provides a daily report for Biflex on the status of its import containers, and he coordinates the moves from the port to the rail. Overall, Joanne said he does a fantastic job, and I must please not tell her that I am moving him off her account. Mike is always very thorough, and if he sees anything that could be a potential problem, he will always bring it to management’s attention. We are lucky to have staff such as Mike Juarez and Patti Rupe.

Transit time has always been extremely important to Biflex as well as cost. BDP has had to always be very proactive and flexible with the handling of this account. Biflex had been used to moving their freight utilizing their own service contract directly with the carriers; however, I think that they have realized the benefit of using an NVOCC like BDP Transport. We have been able to utilize many of our existing service contracts at one time or another for the Biflex traffic. When rates became too high with one carrier, we could turn to BDP Transport, specifically Chris Larkin-BDP Transport Import Sales Support and Tim Burnite-BDP Transport Import Supervisor, to facilitate rate negotiations. These successful negotiations, coupled with the advantage of the quick ability to utilize another BDP Transport carrier, provided Biflex with flexible carrier options at very competitive rates.

The Biflex account is an excellent example of how using BDP Transport can provide customers with the flexibility to react to the current market conditions to reduce their costs while maintaining their levels of service. This kind of flexibility does not happen when customers sign their own service contracts directly with the carriers - as they are committed to one carrier and one price for the whole year. This, together with the excellent operational service provided by the BDP colleagues in Indonesia (Jakarta), Hong Kong, and Dallas USA, has resulted in the kind words expressed by the Biflex Intimates Group.

BDP Testimonial
Just had a 15 minute conversation with Donnie Weissberg, Director of Supply Chain Management, North and Central America - SIG Combibloc Inc. It was nice to listen to his feedback on the two of you and your team.

1) Extremely impressed with your persistence, effort and extensive knowledge of supply chain and regulatory

2) You are finally getting recognition, in Germany (HQ), for your service levels, and for BDPSmart, all USA EMO business will be turned over to BDP.

3) 20 man global team meeting in Austria in May to set up their global RFQ, he will allow me to address that team to discuss our gains on the former EMO business, and how BDP and BDPSmart can help them. We can use their live data from the States to make our case.

4) Very impressed with Lena and her tremendous concern and knowledge of SIG's business

BDP USA Secures SIG Combibloc Ocean and Air Import Business

New Opportunities
In September 2007, SIG came to BDP remarking that they wanted to make a change from their current freight forwarder, EMO Trans.

The main concern was that EMO Trans “became satisfied with handling the business as is, with minimal process or technological improvement recommendations for the past twelve years, resulting in status quo performance.” Simply said, EMO Trans has been comfortable handling the business exactly as is and maintained the same processes year over year.

BDP submitted our formal bid for the business and patiently waited for the outcome. Simultaneously, at the time BDP’s proposal was submitted, the entire SIG business went into a global bid, where SIG’s current forwarder, EMO Trans, was –once again - awarded the transportation business.

Building a Relationship
Although the business outcome was a disappointment to BDP, Lena was determined to make the most of the current situation and kept a very close eye on this opportunity. She was continuously in front of the customer, through meetings and communicating weekly via email, to find out how BDP could be involved and even offered suggestions on how BDP could help SIG and its global supply chain partners. Lena’s mindset was to keep forging ahead until we got our foot in the door.

Over time, BDP became an advocate for SIG - continually sharing ideas to improve its processes, such as demonstrating our freight management reporting tools in BDPSmart, emphasizing our extensive regulatory and industry knowledge, and ultimately selling the benefits of lower transportation costs and carrier flexibility through BDP Transport.

Persistence Pays Off
After several BDP-SIG meetings, BDP was awarded the brokerage, or clearance, for SIG Combibloc's inbound ocean and air shipments.

In closing, Lena's persistence, determination, and her ability to assertively communicate the benefits of BDP's service offerings afforded opportunities for BDP USA to secure the import brokerage business. And now, with one foot in the door, we have a blank canvas in front us to demonstrate our expertise and applications to secure additional SIG business. John Wright further comments that “BDP looks forward to a long relationship with SIG and is most appreciative of SIG’s support and business.”

Thank you, Lena, for all your hard work and relentless efforts to build the BDP-SIG relationship and to have, yet another, success story to share with BDP employees and customers alike.
